When families face their most difficult moments, they need more than just legal advice. They need an attorney who combines courtroom confidence with genuine compassion. At M&A Law Firm, we believe the best family law attorneys are skilled litigators who understand that behind every case is a family navigating one of life's most challenging transitions.

M&A Law Firm, P.C. is built on a foundation of zealous client advocacy and proven courtroom results. We prepare every case for trial while pursuing the best possible outcome for our clients, whether that is reached through negotiation or in front of a judge. Our reputation comes from strategic litigation, aggressive representation when needed, and consistently delivering results that protect what matters most to the families we serve.

We are seeking a Family Law Attorney with a minimum of 3–5 years of experience who wants to grow their litigation skills while making a meaningful impact on clients' lives. What You'll Do

As a Family Law Attorney, you will be instrumental in establishing our family law practice. Our firm is built on a foundation of strong litigation skills and courtroom success, and we are now expanding into family law. We need an attorney with 3–5 years of family law experience who can bring substantive knowledge of domestic relations procedures, family court practices, and the unique aspects of representing clients through divorce, custody matters, and related issues. In return, you will work alongside trial-tested partners who will support your litigation development while learning from your family law expertise. This is a unique opportunity to build a practice area with the backing of experienced litigators and firm infrastructure.

Your work will span the full range of family law matters, from initial consultations through final judgment. We use cutting-edge technology and AI tools to enhance our research capabilities and case management efficiency. However, we never lose sight of what matters most: families need attorneys who combine technological advantages with sound legal judgment, genuine empathy, and courtroom skills to protect their interests when settlement is not possible.

M&A Law Firm, P.C. is an equal opportunity employer.

Paralegal with 2-4 years of experience

Paralegal – Civil Litigation and Family Law - M&A Law Firm, P.C. | Schaumburg, IL

At M&A Law Firm, a boutique litigation practice based in Schaumburg, Illinois, we are committed to delivering legal services that are custom-tailored to the distinctive challenges of each case. Our guiding philosophy, Creativity + Precision = Exceptional Outcomes, shapes every strategy we deploy, blending innovative problem-solving with meticulous execution.

With a focus on business, construction, real estate, commercial, and civil litigation, and also family law, our team is dedicated to navigating complex legal landscapes with both art and science. We pride ourselves on standing out in the crowded legal field, driven by a culture that values teamwork, integrity, and a relentless pursuit of excellence on behalf of our clients.

As a Paralegal at M&A Law Firm, you will play a pivotal role in supporting our attorneys across a wide caseload, including high-stakes discovery and trial preparation. Working onsite in Schaumburg, you will directly assist two attorneys, ensuring that cases progress smoothly and efficiently. Your contributions will be essential to helping the firm manage its growing docket, enabling attorneys to focus on advocacy while you provide the backbone of organization, drafting, and research that fuels client success.

At this experience level, you will manage your own caseload from intake through resolution with minimal supervision, independently conducting client interviews, organizing case documents, and drafting routine pleadings, discovery requests and responses, and motions (including motions to dismiss, summary judgment, and motions to compel) without needing templates.

You will prepare courtesy copies and comprehensive document productions, privilege logs, and coordinate with clients on their document collection obligations, particularly for construction and real estate cases involving voluminous contracts and records. E-filing in Illinois state courts should be second nature, as you will handle all electronic filings, monitor deadlines across multiple cases, and maintain court dockets without constant guidance on local rules.

You will schedule and coordinate depositions, prepare deposition notices and summaries, and organize key documents to prepare attorneys for depositions. While attorneys handle strategic discussions, you will serve as the primary point of contact for client status updates and scheduling matters.

Trial preparation should be a strength, including preparing exhibit lists, witness lists, trial notebooks, coordinating expert witnesses, and preparing jury instructions for complex business disputes and construction defect cases.

What We're Looking For

Education & Certification: Associate degree or certificate from an ABA-approved paralegal program, or a bachelor's degree with a paralegal certificate. While paralegal certification is strongly preferred, those with an equivalent combination of education and legal experience are also welcome to apply. We also encourage applications from candidates with legal degrees who are not currently licensed to practice in Illinois.

Experience & Background: 2–4 years of paralegal experience required in a civil litigation or family law firm. This must be experience in civil litigation and/or family law specifically. Must have experience managing cases independently, including drafting pleadings, discovery, and motions without templates, coordinating depositions and document productions, and handling e-filing in Illinois state and federal court. Working knowledge of court rules, deadline management across multiple cases, deposition preparation, and trial preparation is required.

Litigation Skills: Strong foundation in discovery procedures, including document review and production. Ability to prepare motions, pleadings, and trial materials, and to assist attorneys throughout all phases of litigation. You should be handling substantial case management responsibilities with minimal supervision.

Technical Proficiency: Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and experienced with legal research databases such as Westlaw or LexisNexis. Familiarity with case management software is preferred. Experience with Smokeball is a plus.

Professional Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, with strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple cases, prioritize deadlines, and maintain professionalism in client interactions.

Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: Strong ability to analyze complex information, identify issues, and develop practical solutions. Proactive in anticipating attorney needs and resolving challenges before they escalate.

Teamwork & Collaboration: Capable of working independently while also thriving as part of a collaborative legal team, adapting to the needs of attorneys and colleagues.

Work Environment: Able to work on-site and has the capability to sit for extended periods while reviewing case documents, with the focus and stamina required for litigation support.

Physical Requirements: Occasional lifting of legal files and boxes up to 25 pounds, along with manual dexterity for computer-based tasks and document handling.

Schedule Flexibility: Willingness to work extended hours during trial preparation or when critical deadlines arise, ensuring attorneys are fully supported.
