Cameron Thomas

Cameron J. Thomas is a legal professional whose experience reflects a strong foundation in both public service and private-sector litigation, alongside experience in complex commercial and arbitration matters. He is currently pending licensure following successful completion of the bar examination and presently serves as a Paralegal at M&A Law Firm. In this role, Cameron plays a key part in handling matters before the American Arbitration Association (AAA) and contributes to a broad range of legal issues across the firm’s practice areas.

Cameron earned his Juris Doctor from Chicago-Kent College of Law in May 2024. During law school, he was deeply engaged in leadership and advocacy. He served as Vice President of the Privacy Law Society, 2L Representative for the Student Bar Association, and Academic Chair of the Black Law Students Association. Cameron was also a member of the Chicago-Kent Trial Team, where he refined his courtroom advocacy, litigation strategy, and oral argument skills through competitive trial work.

His academic excellence earned him multiple Dean’s List honors, as well as the CALI Award in Harassment, Bullying, Trafficking & Violence in the Workplace. He was also recognized as Best Advocate (Rounds 4 & 5) in the National Trial League Mock Trial Competition and advanced to the Quarterfinals in the Queens County District Attorney’s Office Mock Trial Competition.

Before law school, Cameron graduated magna cum laude from Morehouse College with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. While at Morehouse, he consistently earned Dean’s List and Honor Roll distinctions and developed a strong interest in public policy, civil rights, and community advocacy. His undergraduate academic research examined political participation within the LGBTQIA+ community, a focus he later expanded in law school through scholarly work addressing workplace discrimination and violence stemming from heteronormative views on sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression.

Cameron’s professional experience reflects meaningful exposure to both public-serving and private legal practice. In the public interest sector, he served as a Client Intake and Legal Support Intern, where he screened and evaluated matters involving housing, criminal defense, and criminal records relief. Cameron also worked with a community-based re-entry program, where he assisted individuals seeking criminal records relief by supporting case preparation alongside helping clients navigate the expungement and sealing process. His early experience also includes work with a private practice firm, where he assisted in trial preparation, discovery review, and legal research across criminal, civil, and family law matters.

In the private sector, Cameron has worked extensively in litigation support and defense practice. In prior roles with civil defense firms, he assisted in drafting subpoenas, discovery requests, interrogatories, and production responses, and conducted detailed case law and expert witness research in matters involving medical malpractice, construction liability, negligence, dram shop claims, retail and hospitality liability, and general liability defense.

Additionally, as a former Legal Associate within a consulting firm focused on diversity and government contracting compliance, Cameron advised on certification matters involving local, state, and federal agencies, including the Illinois Commission on Equity and Inclusion (CEI), the City of Chicago, the SBA 8(a) Business Development Program, SAM.gov, and the National Minority Supplier Development Council. His work included research on landlord-tenant agreements, statutory precedent, and best practices in diversity, equity, and inclusion within government contracting and procurement.

Cameron remains actively engaged in the legal community through his involvement with the Cook County Bar Association, Black Men Lawyers’ Association, R.A.G.E. Englewood, National Black Law Students Association, and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated. He is committed to excellence in advocacy, community engagement, and providing strategic, client-focused legal support.
